Book the morning slot
Conditions are calmer, groups are smaller, temperatures are survivable, and if the operator cancels you still have the rest of the day. Afternoon slots are the ones that get cancelled and the ones that get crowded.
Be honest about fitness
Operators describe difficulty optimistically. A moderate hike with six hundred metres of ascent is not moderate for most people on holiday. Read the elevation figure rather than the adjective, and choose one level below your ambition.
Confirm what is included
Equipment, transfers, entrance fees, food, and insurance. Boat trips in particular vary enormously in what the price covers. Ask about minimum numbers too, because small group tours cancel when they do not fill.
Check the operator, not the platform
Booking platforms resell. Find the operator's own name, check their reviews and their safety record separately, and verify they have local licensing where that applies, particularly for diving, climbing and anything on water.
